Storyline Technical Demo

This is a video export from a brief module that I created as a sample to demonstrate some of my abilities and design work on a fictional project within Storyline 360 because most of Smith IDT LLC projects are under NDA. All Design work including graphics and player, image selection, audio, music selection/creation, sound effects, scripting, quiz design, and video production for this sample were produced exclusively by myself and is a representation of how a Smith IDT LLC Instructional Design training module may look depending on client needs. It is important to match your product with your client. In this case, the Capital One homepage was used as a resource to select correct colors and fashion a module design that fits with known Capital One styling. Licensed images and videos are often purchased and embedded; however, I am a skilled photographer as well and can produce high quality instructional imagery or video as needed if that is preferred.

Mastersmiths Demo Video/Photography

This is a video I created for Mastersmiths LLC, a company that specialized in custom ornate woodcarving around the globe, based in Gunter, Texas. Although Mastersmiths is no-longer in business, their woodcarving and work continues today – now as part of Smith Design & Manufacturing, also based in Gunter, Texas.  This video was recorded using a variety of Canon cameras and lenses and is a good representation of the quality of work that could be expected from Smith IDT. Music used is licensed, and all images were taken in person. The objective of this video was for it to be played in a loop fashion in a lobby for people to view while waiting for meetings or other services.

Full Sail Projects

While attending Full Sail working to obtain my Masters Degree in Instructional Design & Technology I have had the pleasure of being involved in many projects that exemplify my creative skills and mastery of learning theory. I have included four examples of my work here below.

Captivate Module
3D Printing an Emerging Technology

My Captivate module on 3D Printing is a compilation of eLearning theory at its best with a focus on interactivity. Learners are able to progress within the module at their own pace with interactive features giving the learner opportunities to engage more deeply within the learning material presented to gain a understanding of what 3D printers are, the kinds of 3D printers available, and the hardware and software required to operate a 3D printer. The training module was created using Adobe Captivate with strict adherence to my Design Brief, and Storyboard to ensure that all course objectives and goals are accomplished through the included learning material.

Music Story

GarageBand Music Story Link

My Music Story efficiently educates learners on some of the uses and benefits of 3D printing in real world scenarios with a focus on auditory learning theory using music, dialogue, and sound effects to help learners visualize the scenarios as if they were there. My music story contains a compilation of essential edits appropriate for creating auditory educational material including proper ducking, frequency adjustments, modification to reverberation, and a steady speech pattern with words clearly spoken to eliminate distractions for learners. A large portion of the music heard was created myself using GarageBand while all narration and sound effects were created by myself using a Snow Ball microphone and settings within GarargBand.

This course was designed to be a four week program that includes my Captivate module and course material where participants learn about the strengths/weaknesses of different kinds of 3D printers and filament materials. My 3D Printing an Emerging Technology Blackboard course is the culmination of learning theory being properly applied in a online setting where Learners participate in interactions that include synchronous and asynchronous communication methods, tools to monitor grades, upcoming assignments, videos, assessments, discussion boards, and learner involved choice assignments. A complete syllabus, weekly schedule,  introduction video, additional resources, and a customizable interface are all included created by myself using the Blackboard LMS to ensure that learning takes place as effectively as possible.

Game Packet

My Game Packet consists of required materials created for the purpose of showing a potential business/client, how gamification elements can be integrated into the learning process for training new hires or students about 3D printers and their benefits. My game was created to be flexible enough where it can still apply in a scenario where modern technology is not available, and work to motivate learners both intrinsically and extrinsically to progress in their learning following the learning theory of gamification to decrease the cognitive load, enhance engagement, and improve the retention of information taught to learners through learning materials, and assessments. Each of the drawings within the Game Packet were created myself through the use of Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on the Windows platform with a Surface Pro 3 while Microsoft’s Powerpoint was used to create the game concept outlines and iMovie was used to create my 3D Printing Business Venture Promo Video.

This infographic showcases the results of survey data collected from participants who sampled my interactive Captivate module on 3D printing. The infographic itself was created using the Piktochart software and encompasses proper learning theory and design using color to separate sections of data, a uniform design and color layout, images that are relevant and represent data, use of font and text size to express emphasis, and limited text. Special attention was given to the layout and included images to ensure all assets included were useful and properly spaced to maximize learner engagement.

This interactive iBook provides an in depth look at the instructional design process in the creation of my interactive training module on 3D printing while detailing the integration process of various types of learning theory including design theory in regards to page layout, auditory learning, and gamification. The ADDIE model, Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate, was used as part of the instructional design process in the creation of the training module. The process of following the ADDIE model and other factors that may need to be considered in the creation of learning/eLearning materials is detailed within this article.

SOSU Intro Video

This is a introduction video I created for SOSU using DaVinci Resolve as part of a contract project I have been doing for their Safety department. DaVinci Resolve is advanced video editing software I have been experementing with that has many modern advanced features to fully utilize PC hardware, such as GPU rendering to expedite video production.
