Instructional Design Process
The information contained on this page outlines the design process used to create my training module 3D Printing an Emerging Technology. Samples of my work during this process have been included below explaining their purpose, significance, and benefit to a potential client in the production of learning materials.
Video Synopsis
This video provides a synopsis of the instructional design process that was followed to create my interactive module on 3D printing. The ADDIE process was followed during the completion of these learning materials.
Design Brief
A design brief is created to ensure that the needs of a target audience are recognized and will be met with clearly defined goals and objectives as seen here with my own design brief. This is the first and essential step of following the ADDIE process in the creation of learning materials as part of the analysis phase. A design brief provides an opportunity for a client to make last minute adjustments and ensures that learner needs will be met before advancing deeper into the design and development phases.
Flow Chart
A flow chart was created as part of the Design Phase of the ADDIE process, showing the pathways that learners can navigate the module and when new sections become available. A flow chart is important to create in order to allow clients to review and determine if learners should be enabled to have an even greater level of freedom. My module currently has navigation controls present at all times for the convenience of those previewing the module, however timed navigation controls are present for learners requiring them to review all the material before progressing.
Interactive Wireframe/Storyboard
In order for a training module to be effective a wireframe and storyboard must be created outlining all of the intended contents within the training. Timing for each slide, intended narration, planned interactions, music selection, look and feel of the module, and transitions are included as part of the storyboard. The creation of the storyboard and wireframe outlining learning interactions are part of the design phase of the ADDIE process and are both contained here within my storyboard for my training module 3D Printing an Emerging Technology.
Video Storyboard
Videos play a vital role in learner engagement and require a great deal of planning to ensure they are effective and for client approval. To accomplish this video storyboards were created in addition to the primary storyboard for the module as part of the design phase of the ADDIE process outlining scene times, angeles for each shot applying the rule of thirds, a engaging story with a POW introduction, planned sound effects, music, time duration, and transitions.
